Sustainability

Karayan Clothing, formerly known as Daily Malong, encourages sustainability in the fashion industry. At the heart of our brand, we are committed to weaving a story of not just fashion but also of culture, tradition, and respect for our planet. Our journey towards sustainability is intertwined with our roots, echoing the wisdom of Indigenous communities.

One of our key pillars of sustainability is our dedication to sourcing textiles and fabrics directly from Indigenous communities we’ve partnered with in the Philippines. This initiative not only supports these communities economically, but also promotes continuous practice of their weaving traditions, passed down by generations. By collaborating with the artisans, we ensure that the fabrics we use are not only of the highest quality but also produced in a manner that respects the environment and community practices.

Karayan Clothing prides itself on producing limited runs of each piece in our collections. This approach not only reduces waste but also fosters a culture of rest, family time, and community work within our team. By valuing quality over quantity, we encourage our customers to cherish and care for their garments, promoting a more sustainable approach to fashion consumption.

We are passionate about remembering and embodying forgotten ancestral knowledge, which has been an integral part of our team’s values. In this endeavor, we collaborate closely with community elders, who are the guardians of a wealth of sustainable principles that have long been forgotten and forcibly erased during centuries of colonization.

Our partnership with community elders allows us to infuse our designs with deeper meaning and significance. We work hand-in-hand with them to remember and celebrate these sustainable principles, integrating them into our brand’s ethos. This approach not only respects the Indigenous cultures and traditions of the Philippines but also ensures that our practices align with time-tested, sustainable values.

At Karayan, our commitment to sustainability extends beyond our clothing and reaches into the heart of our team, our community partners, and our customers who wear our garments. Through our sustainable practices, we aim not only to create beautiful and meaningful fashion but also to leave a positive and lasting impact on the environment and the lives of those we collaborate with. Together, we remember and honor the past while shaping a brighter, more sustainable future for fashion and our planet. Indigenous is the Future.
