Tala Graduation Stoles

Our graduation stoles consist of 2 significant embroidered designs significant for this occasion. Can be worn in a variety of ways!

The Baybayin script spells out the word "karunungan," which translates to "wisdom" in English. As graduates embark on their journey beyond school, may they continue gaining wisdom and embody ancestral knowledge during this big milestone.

Three stars, known as "bituin," "bituon," "sambituon," or "tala" in different Philippine languages is a significant motif shared among many indigenous communities. These stars were specifically inspired by different tribes in the Cordillera region. Stars have long been a symbol of light and wisdom, and were used for astrology and navigation by many Austronesian cultures. This design represents the hope that graduates will be guided by the knowledge they have learned from school and the wisdom of different oral histories throughout their families, just as the stars guided the Pilipino ancestors on their journeys.

Stole is made out of inabel from the weavers of Bangar, La Union, Philippines and carefully embroidered and constructed by our favorite seamstress, Ate Jo.
