Ancestral Wisdom Tells Us: People Belong to the Earth, Not Papers

No One Is Illegal on Stolen Land.
Before borders, there were trade winds. There were migrations guided by stars—not passports. Canoes, not cages. Indigenous peoples journeyed freely—exchanging stories, songs, ceremonies, and kin across what we now call nations. Conflict had an ancestral process. Movement and migration was a sacred rhythm, not a crime.
Then came colonization.
The theft of land brought the invention of borders—first imagined, then violently enforced. Fences replaced forests. Migration, once sacred, was criminalized. Kinship lines were cut. Communities that once roamed in harmony are now hunted in fear.
What’s happening in Los Angeles is NOT NEW. It’s the same old violence resurfacing—one that punishes the very people whose lands and labor built this country. A system that shatters families, desecrates culture, and criminalizes survival.
As a mother, I know how vital proximity is for the nervous system of our children. Safety and connection—whether through family, neighbors, or chosen kin—are essential for our young to grow into whole and secure adults. This is personal. This is political. This is a collective stance that shapes the future of our world.
Los Angeles is a mosaic of colonized survival—displaced dreams, ancestral hopes, and communities seeking refuge from the very empires that destroyed their homelands. To now punish them for surviving is a desecration—not just of families, but of the sacred relationship between people and place.
To those being hunted, hidden, resisting: we see you. We are with you. May our ancestors walk with you through this darkness.
This is an immigration issue—rooted in a colonial wound that must be named in order to be healed.
We call for:
Immigration holiness.
Sanctuary.
Compassion.
Restoration.
And the return of humanity to this system.
May we all understand, have compassion, and influence justice in these trying times.
In deep solidarity,
Lydia Querian / Mama Gongs
